Merged University Should be called Central China University

Merging is a fashion in China now. This is a short cut to becoming big. It may not be
so good for the whole country. But it really benifits individual universities. This is a
win-win situation for the universities involved. It would be to HUST's disadvantage if
HUST refused to merge. So, I don't think we should resist the merge. Making good
usage of limited resouce is a big enough reason for merging.
However, what we need to lobby is the name of the merged university. The merged
university should be called Central China University (CCU) in English, In Chinese, it is
"Hua-Zhong-Da-Xue". First of all, "Central China" is a bigger name than "Wuhan".
Internationally, "Central China" is easer to be remembed and accepted than "Wuhan".
Since HUST is much larger than "Wu-Da", it is reasonable to use its first two
characters "Hua-Zhong". The last two characters "Da-Xue" are from Wu-Da's
old name.
As to the history, both Wu-Da's and HUST's will be kept as part of the history of
the merged university. American universities have same thing too. Some university
have words like "Established since 19xx" in their logos. When looking into it, you
found that the date was when one of its college started and this college had a totally
different name.
