Dear Mr Yu,

Thank you very much for your great concern on the home university. I am an international officer at the University who is in charge of maintaining and updating the English version of HUST website. We have received many many emails from overseas saying that the HUST website is unaccessible. We have reported it to the corresponding department many many times. However, the problem is still not solved. Their response is that there is no problem to visit our website overseas. Indeed, some leaders once occasionally access our website and it was accessible sometimes. But we have got information from various channels that it is unaccessible at most time. The Director of my office wrote many reports to the President's Office and also reported many times by phone calls, but failed. It even makes certain leaders in some departments unhappy with us.

We feel very shamed for the fact that HUST is the CERnet connection of five provinces in the cenral China and also proud for ranking the top 10 at home. This is absolutely not a difficult problem to solve. It is easy to get it down although we don't know it technically.

I have some suggestions for HUST alumni overseas who always show great concern to the development of HUST.

Firstly, would you please state the fact you are meeting and the importance of accessiblity to the website at the information age, than fax it to the president's office (+86-27- 87545438 )? You'd better write in Chinese and get more signatures.

Secondly, you can directly call Mr Wang Haisheng, Director of President's Office (+86-27-87542101 87542102), or call Prof Wang Cheng, Vice President, at +86-27-87542319 ?

Thirdly, HUST will celebrate its 50th Anniversary this October. You will be invited to attend the grand celebration. It would be better to raise the question together to all the university authority face to face. The celebration is being busily prepared. You will get the information very soon in public.

I do not know who made this decision or the motivation behind it. Do

you have a channel to talk to so that the network operator can lift this block? It is

very important to for a university to have a web presence online.
