Yidao,
Thank you for your emails about the naming issue of HUST. As a HUSTer, I
am watching closely on what is happening to my beloved university.
Considering the trend and goverment's policy, my opinion is the merger
with TongJi medical school is very critical for HUST's future. Very few
university can remain at top without a medical school (and a law
school), which is specially true for Hua Gong which is relately new
compared to other older universities and is not that famous yet. It will
be a nightmare to Hua Gong if WuDa merges with TongJi.
I don't think naming issue is more important than merger. We need to
view this issue from long term. Yes, we hope we can keep the current
name or have a new name which contains "HuaZhong". But before that, as
alumni,I think we need to fully support the merger.

Hi, my name is Cai Xiaohong. I graduated from HUST in 1984
(BSEE) and 1987 (MA in Philosophy). And I believe we were
neighbor when we lived in the 2nd floor of "West-5 Building".
The reason I am writing this letter to you is I see your name
in some recent discussion of HUST name change. Personally, I
am totally against it. To me, the forcoming re-naming effort
is wasting everybody's time and good for nothing.
As a maintainer of HUST alumni in US. I hope you could
organize some forum to collect ideas and explore pros and cons
of this issue. Also we need find out a formal channel so that
our voice can be heard by the leader in HUST.
