Dear All,
As the alumni of HUST, we certainly concern the future of HUST. I completely agree with the opinion of Mr Zhong Xiaolin, i.e. HUST should keep its English name unchanged and only change its Chinese name to Huazhong Ke Ji Da Xie. Most famous universities in the world are named as same as where they locate. Different from a business company, a brand name of a famous university need decades or more than a hundred years to build and to get recognition. Huazhong means central China and HUST is already a brand name. This brand name represents the hard works and contributions of all tens thousands of alumni. We strongly oppose the funny new name of Huatong University.

Dear all,
Our works in Science and Technology will be a strong support for our
mother university of HUST. Could you kindly and effectively support your
mother university because she is still a week tree
in the world science garden? Only our work is the best love to our mother
HUST. Believe we can change back soon!
Best regards,
Prof. of Physics(HUST)

Dear all,
Personally, I think Hua zhong Da Xue might be the best name for the merged
university. All parties involved in the merge would be happy about it.
Hua Zhong, the two characters should be kept for the reason that they
represent the unique regional and cultural history. Almost all universities
everywhere in the world use place's name to indicate their location and
cultural history background. HuaTong Da Xue has no any useful content and
is too strange to everyone in both learning and business sectors in China
and overseas. It might be just alright for a brand new university without
root. It sounds like a continuation education college established by
a charity or religion society.
As for the English name , HUST is the best. It is a well established name
through the hard work of several generations of Huagong alumni, especially
since China adopted its open-door policy more than 20 year ago. We would
spend another 20 or more years to establish the current statue of HUST in
both China and overseas for the newly named university.
A medical school run by an university is absolutely normal. Tong Ji still
can keep its name as Tong Ji Medical College or School under HUST. For
a long run it will not lose anything but gain from the merge. It is
a stuation where two universities win. If Hua Tong was chosen as the
English name of the merged univ, two universities will lose and the
damage caused will not be repairable, even if MOE accepts the conditions
listed in Liming's email. It is us who care HUST most.
Just for your reference

Dear Friends,
A week or so ago, I wrote a short piece about changing school name.
I called it Chinese A Q name change trick. I am now copying it here for
you guys just for fun (you need to use Richwin)

I really feel funny that HUST is going to change name again. That gives me
exactly the same feeling as the Wuhan made cigarettes change their brands
frequently just for a short time profit and then no one could last more than
five years on it.
Maybe it is a wise decision to merge some related power to build a
superpower, but it never makes any sense to merge two names to spell out a
new brand. MIT still holds its name for famous not because it's named under
the Institute. Either one of the original names are better than the stupid
mixed HuaTong. By considering the TongJi University is used already, then
HuaZhong is the only choice.
Why don't use HuaZhong University directly, so we don't bother to rack the
brains again next time just in case it's ordered to merge with HuaZhong
Normal University!!?
